The VRG team collaborates extensively wit the Valve Research Group of prof. Mahmood (Harvard) and with the Gorman Cardiovascular Research Group (uPenn). This collaboration exists of data sharing, research fellowships and collaborations in larger research projects. We have certain points of interest, although we are continuously searching for interesting research topics regarding cardiac valves. Our main research topics are:

3D Trans-esophageal echocardiography (TEE)

Withe the data generated from 3d TEE, we are able to analyse many parameters regarding cardiac function. Our highly specialised software (TomTec) allowes us to do so.

EDUCATION

The VRG is a versatile group and provides not only a healthy research envoirnment for students, but has also many educational goals. We run multiple annual training programs for residents, scrub nurses, medschool students and fellow physicians. Here are some of our programs:

Surgical cardiac anatomy course

In this fun, hands-on training by our professional surgical staff, students are educated in the detailed cardiac anatomy using porcine hearts.

High fidelity cardiac surgical training for residents in our state of the art training OR

Our training facility contains all the equipment that a normal OR has to offer. With our specially developed technique to perform beating heart surgery on preserved human cadavers, we are able to mimic a real OR setting for training purposes.

Trans-esophageal echocardiography (TEE) training

Our team provides annual TEE training for residents or whoever is interested. This hands-on training is provided using a unique TEE simulator for best possible results.
